4:08 and change

I'd like to tell you that the competitor in me is upset with this, given how hard I trained and how bad I wanted sub 4. But I'm not. On this course, on this day, and with the exception of one mental lapse on mile 24/25 which I'll explain later, this was all I had. I made some mistakes out there, and the 19 mph winds were brutal once we made the turn out of town and into the desert, but regardless, I don't think 4:00 hours was gonna happen today. I am glad I chose to run this marathon, but don't get me wrong - I am happy to be done! I have practiced much restraint in Vegas so far - so sub 4 or no sub 4 - it's time to celebrate, baby!!! I'm gonna be walking like a pirate with 2 peg legs, and I think the little black dress and high heels I brought may have to stay in the closet tonight - but we're out and off to have some fun!!! Race report to come soon!

Congratulations on all your hard efforts to run a sub-4 hour marathon. Whether or not you made the time is not as important as the effort put forth. Besides it looks like the gains come in 5 to 10 minutes for a PR. So if you run another marathon you'll have a realistic goal to shoot for. Enjoy your rest.

Maybe you should hang out at Treasure Island with your peg legs! (Or TI as they call it now!)

Excellent job out there!! I heard it was a tough race from some others, and that the clocks were screwed up around 24/25!!

I can't wait to hear the full RR! Have FUN!

8min is only a 3% difference from your goal. No prior marathon experience, no familiarity with the course, and the winds; statistically, you did what you set out to do. I know marathoners who after years and years of doing them still don't get it all just right with pacing and goal times.

Congratulations on your accomplishment; hope you had a lot of fun afterwards!?

Well done Lana, I'm a Scotsman training for his second marathon in Stockholm in 2007 and I've found your blogs to be very helpful in my own training. In particular your dedication and single mindedness is a lesson for me. Not breaking 4 hours in these conditions is no disgrace. If you'd like a read at my blog then go to http://marathontrainingandnutrition.blogspot.com/

As long as you know you gave it everything, you met your goal Lana. Congrats!!! :-)

4:08 and change is a tough, tough time, especially given the wind. Way to go! Enjoy yourself with the hubby-the race report can wait.

Howdy! I also ran the LV Marathon, in fact I've ran the last SIX Las Vegas Marathons (probably because I LIVE in Las Vegas)and the weather has always been windy and/or cold. By the way, at 8:00 a.m. during the marathon McCarren Airport (2 miles away from Strip) reported 31 MPH WINDS, not 19 mph winds!!! Someday, just someday, the weather will be perfect. Looking forward to your report...my report is at about.com in the running/jogging forum. By the way I did 3:45:27 and shocked myself with a BQ. Bruce Robison
